Adopt-a-Highway

Scenic Colorado not only talks about highway beautification but works at it.

The State of Colorado allows groups and individuals to adopt stretches of highway for regular trash cleanup. Scenic Colorado has adopted a stretch of highway that borders the Red Rock Canyon open space preserve in El Paso County. Volunteers from Scenic Colorado walk U.S. Highway 24 between mile markers 299 and 300 at least four times a year. It is located between Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs. As many as 24 bags of trash have been collected during these forays.

If you would like to participate, please contact Scenic Colorado.

If you would like to know how to adopt a stretch of highway in another part of Colorado, we can help arrange contacts with cooperative people at the Colorado State Department of Transportation.
